The Providence Experience! The Providence Experience is an opportunity to: Grow in mind and spirit, Serve Christ by serving others, Stretch one's abilities, Learn new skills, Share the ones you have, See new sites, Play, and Find new ways of thinking about others in the world. Part of the day can be spent at a one or more work sites or historical landmarks and the rest spent recreating or site-seeing. It is possible to provide a new experience each day. R.I. Conference staff can assist you in setting up work projects. WHERE WILL YOU STAY? Use the Lodge at Irons Homestead Camp as a base of operations at 688 Snake Hill Road Glocester, Rhode Island. Bring your own food, cooks, chaperones, program, activities, supplies and a great attitude. Spend two, three, four, five or more days working and playing. Bring one or several youth, family or adult groups. You will stay at the Irons Homestead Camp and Conference Center located in northwestern Rhode Island. The camp is approximately: 30 minutes from Providence, RI... 45 minutes from Boston, MA... 1½ hours from Hartford, CT... 1 hour from the Mystic Seaport... 3½ hours from New York City, NY... 45 minutes from an Atlantic Ocean beach... 1 hour from Newport, RI...1½ hours from Cape Cod, MA. WHAT IS THE IRONS HOMESTEAD? Irons Homestead is a 75 wooded acreage located in the northwest corner of Rhode Island. On the site is a FOUR season lodge with kitchen. 10 bedrooms with full twin and twin/futon bunk beds will comfortably sleep 32 persons. The lodge has a large meeting room, fireplace, screened-in porch and private shower stalls. Also on the site is a meditation walk, labyrinth, large open air pavilion with fireplace, campfire ring, private beach on a fresh water lake, volleyball court, swings, and horseshoe pit. WHAT ARE THE COSTS INVOLVED? There is a: $100.00 non-refundable deposit. $100.00 event fee. (Your deposit becomes your event fee) $12.00 per person per night fee. A Rhode Island Certified Lifeguard is required for using the waterfront. We will work with you to make one available for $25 per hour (minimum of two hours). You will have the cost of the food you prepare and meals you purchase. We can provide a list and location of food and grocery establishments. |
